A Little Family Business with a Big Love for Fabric ❤️

Welcome to Fiver Fabric! We’re an independent, family-run business with a passion for fabric, sewing and making creativity affordable for everyone.

But our story didn’t start in a warehouse or a shop. It started in our conservatory in 2020, with just five jersey fabrics, some sweatshirt fabric and rib cuff fabric, and an idea that grew into something much bigger than we ever imagined.

How It All Began

In 2020, after losing our previous business during the Covid-19 pandemic, we found ourselves having to start again. During this difficult time, Sophie got back into sewing and quickly realised just how expensive fabric had become.

We couldn’t help thinking that beautiful fabrics shouldn’t cost the earth. Sewing is a wonderful hobby, a creative outlet and, for many people, a way to make unique clothing and handmade items. But the cost of fabric could make it difficult to enjoy it to the fullest.

So, we decided to do something about it!

Fiver Fabric was born from a simple idea: to make fabric affordable again.

We wanted to create a place where people could buy fantastic fabrics without paying a fortune, with most of our fabrics available for just £5 or less per metre.

We started small, storing our fabrics in our conservatory at home. From those first five jersey fabrics, we gradually grew, moving from our conservatory into one storage container, then two storage containers, and eventually into a 1,000-square-foot storage unit.

Every step was a milestone, and every new space meant more fabrics, more choice and more opportunities to help our customers bring their creative ideas to life.

From Our Conservatory to Our First Shop

As Fiver Fabric continued to grow, so did our dreams. We took the exciting step of opening our very first shop in Nuneaton, located above a post office.

It was a huge moment for us as a small, independent business. What had begun as a few rolls of fabric at home had grown into a business serving fellow sewing enthusiasts who shared our love of fabric and a good bargain.

In 2023, we made another big life decision. We moved back to Devon and relocated Fiver Fabric with us so that we could be closer to family and provide the care and support our loved ones needed.

Family has always been at the heart of our decisions, and being able to support the people who matter most to us was an important part of this next chapter.

Although moving meant another fresh start, we brought our passion, our fabrics and our commitment to affordable sewing with us.

As an independent, family-run business, we care about what we do. We’re not a huge faceless retailer; we’re a small business built from determination, hard work and a genuine belief that great fabric doesn’t need to come with a hefty price tag.

The People Behind the Prices

Ever wondered how we manage to keep our fabric prices so low? Well, meet Mark – the man behind the prices!

Mark has a real talent for a bit of bartering and is always on the lookout for a great deal. Over the years, he has built up strong working relationships with UK fabric suppliers, working hard to source fantastic fabrics at prices that allow us to pass the savings on to you.

He’s always negotiating, searching for new opportunities and looking for ways to bring you great-quality fabrics without the hefty price tag. After all, finding a bargain is one thing, but making sure our customers benefit from it is what Fiver Fabric is all about!

Together, Sophie and Mark bring different strengths to the business, united by the same goal: to make sewing more affordable and help our customers get creative without breaking the bank.

So, while Sophie may have rediscovered her love of sewing, Mark is busy making sure you can afford to do it! 🧵
